PAINTER (PERMANET)

An incumbent to a position in this class works as a Painter at the skilled craft worker level performing a variety of painting tasks. This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of painting tasks requiring a good knowledge of the trade. General instructions are received from either the Supervisor of Painting or a supervisor in charge concerning tasks to be performed which permits considerable leeway for planning the details of each assignment. Immediate supervision may be exercised over employees assigned. Prepares surfaces by scraping, sanding, washing, calcimining, applying paint and varnish remover, brushing iron surfaces with wire brush to remove rust and scale; Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings and structures; Makes minor plastering repairs, putties nail holes and cracks, primes walls before painting, glazes windows and cleans brushes; Varnishes, enamels, shellacs woodwork and casings; Mixes and tints paints; Erects and dismantles scaffolding as required; Requisitions the necessary materials and supplies as needed; Does occasional sign painting; May paint trucks, automobiles and other motorized equipment; May r
