Meter Services Technician II

The purpose of this classification is to read, install, repair and/or test water meters. Distinguishing Characteristics This classification is distinguished from Meter Services Technician I in that incumbents in this class handle more complex repair and meter reading tasks and have two years of experience providing meter services. Investigates and resolves customer complaints regarding water meters (sizes 3/4-inch to 10-inch), water leaks, pressure, and high bills: checks meters for water leakage, proper operation, and illegal water taps; pumps water from meter boxes; determines source of leaks; reports leaks to property owner and/or supervisor; repairs or rebuilds water meters; calculates flow rates; and calibrates as needed. Locates and reads commercial water meters as assigned: descends into vault; pumps water from meter boxes; records meter data and confirms accuracy of readings; downloads and uploads meter data between portable device and computer system for use in billing of accounts; and maintains related documentation. Connects and/or disconnects services: turns on water meters for new customers ensuring meter is free of leaks and obtaining reading; and turns off and secure
