Maintenance Worker I

The primary objective of this classification is to execute unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and upkeep of county streets, roads, rights-of-way, public facilities, property, and other infrastructure as part of a public works crew. Engages in manual labor to support construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects, including lifting, moving, loading, and unloading materials, equipment, tools, furniture, and supplies; digging ditches, trenches, and holes manually or using power equipment; and shoveling, raking, spreading, compacting, and leveling dirt, rock, asphalt, cement, and other materials. Retrieves supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and other items and performs various errands as needed; collects and transports materials, supplies, tools, and equipment to and from the worksite; and removes litter, debris, and deceased animals from roadways and other County property. Adheres to established safety procedures, utilizing safety equipment and protective gear; monitors the work environment to ensure the safety of employees and others; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks and equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians,
