Job Description This is the first level in the Deputy Sheriff series. This class is a fully certified Peace Officer responsible for performing duties in assigned divisions of the Sheriff's Office: Court Operations, Field Operations, Support Operations and Jail Operations, based on the needs of the agency and at the discretion of the Sheriff or his designee. Applicants must pass a comprehensive background process (criminal, controlled substance, credit, driving, employment history checks) and an oral interview in the first phase of the recruitment process. The second phase includes a drug screen, polygraph and psychological exam. Essential Duties Performing general law enforcement duties to include responding to calls, assisting with the apprehension of suspects or inmates, conducting searches for contraband, ensuring the proper handling of evidence, testifying in court, warrant service and serving civil processes and court orders Preparing proper paperwork for affidavits, reports, warrants, confirming validity, and serving documents as required Maintaining daily logs of shift activity and preparing various reports Escorting and transporting inmates to and from various departments,
